NB. Closing date for this 2017 competition entries is soon – midnight 15th March 2017.

Entries to the Limnisa Short Story Competition may be on any subject, set in the past present or future, but they seek stories that “are fresh and original, told in compelling style.”


1st Prize: one-week writer’s retreat in 2017 or 2018 at Limnisa, Greece. All inclusive: full board, 7 nights accommodation in single room, optional daily yoga sessions, literary evening, use of all Limnisa facilities: beach, bikes, international library etc.

OR five online sessions of personal tutoring.

2nd and 3rd Prize: 50 % discount on the Writers’ Retreat or Workshop (see above).

OR a free online session of personal tutoring or feedback on written work.
2 Runners up: 25% discount on the Writers’ Retreat or Workshop (see above).
(Prizes are not transferable and are valid only in 2017 and 2018.)

Entry fee: None | Optional – for a fee of £30 we will supply a professional evaluation of your story.

Deadline: midnight Wednesday, 15th March 2017.

Submission Highlights

  • in English

  • unpublished

  • fiction of up to 3000 words (500 words minimum)

  • submitted by 15th March 2017

  • only one (1) story per person

  • open to anyone worldwide except for relatives or friends of the judges

  • sent by email to:

  • as a word document (doc or docx) or PDF in Arial or Times New Roman.

  • no headers or footers

  • the title on the first page but not the author’s name

  • accompanied by an email with the author’s full name and email address and the title of the story.

  • NB. entrance is FREE provided you LIKE our Limnisa Facebook page or FOLLOW us on Twitter, and SHARE the competition page on social media.

Judges: prefer to remain anonymous but will include published authors and publishers’ editors as well as a cross section of general readers.

Winning Entries Notes

  1. The winning stories will be announced on, 1st May 2017.
  2. Winners will be contacted by e-mail.
  3. Winning stories will be posted on with the author’s consent.
