The Caribbean Writer 2012 (USVI)

The Caribbean Writer (University of the Virgin Islands) is an excellent annual anthology for submitting your work and building yourwriting credits. Former contributors include Kamau Brathwaite, Derek Walcott, Edwidge Danticat, Earl Lovelace, Joanne Hillhouse, Winston Farrell and Elizabeth Best.

They are seeking submissions for Volume 27 to be published on 2013.

All submissions are eligible for these prizes:

 The Daily News Prize for best poetry ($300)

The Canute A. Brodhurst Prize for best short fiction ($400)

The David Hough Literary Prize to a Caribbean author ($500)

The Marguerite Cobb McKay Prize to a Virgin Island author ($200)

The Charlotte & Isidor Paiewonsky Prize for first-time publication ($250)

Theme for 2012: Musicians and Visual Arts

Deadline: November 30th 2012 (See NOTE below for extension.)

***NB. “Due to many requests from writers, Submissions Deadline has been extended.

New deadline date: December 31, 2012. Looking forward to receiving many more inspiring work for publication consideration in Volume 27.”

Submit poems (5 maximum), short stories, personal essays, (not to exceed 3500 words each), and one-act plays. Only previously unpublished work will be accepted. (If self-published, give details).  NB. They are also seeking “interviews and personal narratives on Caribbean leading musicians and visual artists at home as well as in the diaspora.”

Book reviews are also welcomed.  Persons interested in reviewing books should contact the editor indicating areas of expertise. Include sample reviews if possible.

Monetary prizes are awarded in various categories.

Include brief biographical information and list all contact information plus title of manuscript on a separate page. Only the title should appear with the manuscript.

Top Barbadian musicians who also were featured in her CD shared the stage: saxophonist extradordinaire (Chris Harper (founder of "Cool Jazz'); beloved Bajan diva Tamara Marshall and multi-awarding winning Dwain Gill (on trombone).
