Good Housekeeping (US)

Good Housekeeping Magazine has a wide readership and a solid reputation.  The magazine targets women married with children (anywhere from newborn to college age, but predominantly in the 6-12 age group) and who work outside the home.

NB. Submissions are to be mailed. Recommend emailing query first.

Payment: Rate not stated but they do pay on acceptance.  Recommend emailing query first.

Submissions will be reviewed for the Blessings column on the back page. Submissions should be 500 words, about a person or event that proved to be a blessing in your life. They will also review health narratives — stories of women (or a family member) who’ve overcome a significant medical problem, undergone a medical “first” or had a dramatic rescue.

It’s best to familiarize yourself with the tone and content of Good Housekeeping before you query us. (Back issues will likely be available at your local library.) The most successful queries or manuscripts are those that are timely, appropriately researched, engagingly written, freshly angled and tailored to Good Housekeeping readers in particular.

Queries should be typed, and when possible, should have clips of previously published articles attached. You must include a SASE to receive a reply. Please allow 2 to 3 months for a response, due to the large volume of unsolicited queries we receive.

Submissions in categories other than those listed above will not receive responses.
