Hello Ms. Seawoman,
Let’s hear from folks on Batt’s Rock, What’s going on there is a crying shame, really I’ve been really torn up about this. I already started writing my Batt’s Rock protest pieces.
Regards,
Debbie

Good stuff!(for the poems, that is!) Will we have ANY windows to the sea left at all?
The best way for me to express my feelings about this is: “what’s to become of this land?”
Thanks for your comments Debbie! You could also start this thread at the actual blog http://www.seawomanscaribbean.blogspot.com/ or even start a poll at the Discussion Board.
Power from the pen!

I am excited to observe the strides that Seawoman’s is making in the web’s writing whirl (illiteration intended). I know it will grow and do very well, with the support of other caribbean writers, like myself (Jody “Arsenic” Sandiford). I myself have improved under her wing and am making headway in my writing career as well. I recently created a website, quite like this on, dedicated to writers, where they can publish their pieces online. You may view it at the following link:

Just copy and paste it into your search engine. Again, I am proud to see our caribbean writers standing up for our Writes.

I must give respect to something that we all can agree have the most unshakable spirits. These people, I call them people, exemplify perseverance and success. Guess who I mean yet? They can teach us a thing or two about tenacity; I am talking about… mosquitoes! Yes! As I sit here commenting, I am under barrage from these pesty, harmonic, parasites. Oh how they love to sing, and dance around us, never wavering though we spray them. If we were all as tolerant as mosquitoes, can you imagine how successful we’d all be? Never letting life’s small or large problems squatting us. Always humming though the insecticides of life’s trials threaten our very sanity! So next time you feel down and out or just plain fed up. Remember the OTHER bajan population that always get what they want. Learn from them and live like Kings.

Dear Arsenic:
As I’ve said on your new site…a very big congratulations! Once you’ve posted guidelines on how writers can be published, I’d like to add your site as an opportunity.
Enjoy the journey.

Long time no hear Seawoman. Congrats on getting so many awards this year- you deserved them. I know you wroked tiredly with Anansi to produce those stories. (LOL) I also thank God for another year of awards myself, but I’m goingfor broke (Gold) next year.
Hopefully, with your help, The Amethyst( the novella) will do good. I need inspiration like your to help me get through the trials and writers’ block.

I guess that by my age eveyone figures out, in their own ways, that life isn’t all apples and oranges. We get the odd lemons and limes in their as well. “When life gives you limes… make lemonade!” This is how the saying goes, but let me say, “I sick an’ tired ah lemonade doh!” (in Bajan).
But what can you do when life throws them at you and every other bitter fruit it can muster? You make a fruit salad! Squirt in those limes of lost love, sour grapes of jealousy, the apples of envy, mangoes of merriment, golden apples of gladness, cherries of content and of course the gooseberries of forgiveness.
As someone I know says, “Eat, belch and be happy.” Life ain’t gonna turn me into a bad apple!

My question for everyone is, why are we the way we are? Do we comprehend the magnitude of our behaviours and actions toward others. I mean really. We as human beings live together on this lonly, dying planet, with perishing natural resources and pending demise via micro organisms. The least we can do with the time we have left, is be kind to one another and try to live as one.
For example (and these are off the top of my head), yesterday on the way home from work through traffic, we diverted through Lodge Terrace, near Price Smart. When we turned into the gap, we saw further down the road in front of us, a man in his SUV, quarrelling with the man driving the car in the opposing direction (this was an old man).
They were both stuck at the corner because the old man turned the corner too widely and forced the young man and his SUV to the side, making it impossible for either to continue. The younger man immediately got out of his truck and began swearing at the petrified old man. At one point threatening him physically, while yelling: “Ah gine mek ya park up an’ walk home, yuh f***ing idiot!”
At that point, we reversed, pending a murder scene! For about ten minutes, neither of them would move their vehicles, forcing traffic to wait until the battle of wills had ended. I mean, REALLY! Eventually the old man reversed, allowing the youn man to force his way past the oncoming traffic in a huff.
